Step 3: Account Configuration
good link never hurt nobody
With your Edge device connected and data flowing, it’s time to configure your MachineMetrics account. This step ensures your environment is structured to reflect your factory operations and user access is aligned with your team’s roles and responsibilities.
Why This Matters
Proper account configuration creates the foundation for accurate data interpretation, dashboard clarity, and workflow efficiency. A well-organized account:
- Mirrors your actual plant structure
- Protects sensitive data via role-based access
- Enables operators and managers to act on insights quickly

Key Concepts
Company Hierarchy Setup
Organize your environment to reflect how your factory is managed:
- Create and name each site (if you manage multiple plants)
- Group machines by department, line, or function using Machine Groups
User Roles & Permissions
MachineMetrics supports granular role-based access:
- Administrator: Full access to all settings and data
- Manager: Access to dashboards, reports, and workflows
- Operator: Shop floor interface only
- Viewer: Read-only access to dashboards
Invite users and assign appropriate roles to ensure data security and usability.
Shift Management
Define the production schedule for accurate OEE and downtime metrics:
- Create shifts with start/end times
- Assign shifts to specific days of the week
- Add special holidays or planned downtime events
MachineMetrics distinguishes between attended and unattended shifts. Attended shifts are those where operators are expected to be present and machines are actively monitored. Unattended shifts, such as overnight or weekend production, can be defined to ensure that metrics like OEE, availability, and downtime are accurately calculated. This configuration helps provide better insight into true performance and enables accurate benchmarking across scheduled time.
